The Norwegian Ambassador Visits the Site of an EEA Grants Project in Thrace
Ambassador Stub visited the Riparian Forest of the Nestos Delta on Saturday, 21st June 2008, which is a project financed through the EEA Grants, financing period 1999-2003.
The project consisted of the restoration of 280 ha of natural vegetation and the habitats of native flora and fauna. It therefore contributed to the enhancement of the natural environment and the recuperation of publicly owned natural areas for leisure and learning activities. In this regard, the project improved the facilities of the forest’s two visitors centres, produced information material on the Riparian Forest of Nestos, and constructed a 45 ha enviromental park with an arboretum close to the existing Forest Service nursery. The project’s objectives to protect and improve the natural environment as well as to foster sustainable tourism and educational activities, were therefore fully met.
