The Art and Architecture organization 0047 was commissioned to organize the centennial celebration. The result; The Year of Architecture, a nationwide, year-long program exploring architecture’s role in the Norwegian society.

This year over one hundred small and large-scale projects throughout the country will challenge, expand and enrich Norway’s relationship to architecture, cities and their surroundings. With content ranging from TV programs, exhibitions, debates and publications to conferences, tours and even building projects, the Year of Architecture represents a diverse opportunity to learn about and experience architecture.

The Year of Architecture focuses on how the massive and rapid transformation of today’s society challenges the traditional role and practice of architecture. Climate change, increasing urbanization and new technology alters the conditions for spatial production. The Year of Architecture addresses why -now more than ever- a better and broader understanding is required of how architecture can respond to the needs of society.
