Fifty of the most important buildings designed in Norway from 2000 to 2005, will be presented in Thessaloniki 18 November – 6 December.
In connection with the series of lectures Nordic diffractions of European architecture, the exhibition “Contemporary Norwegian Architecture 2000 - 2005” will be presented in Thessaloniki from 18 November – 6 December 2009 at the foyer of the Archaeological Museum.
The exhibition is produced by the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design (NM), commissioned by the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Fifty of the most important buildings erected in Norway during the five years 2000-2005, have been selected by a jury and are presented by photographs, drawings, text and models. Among them you can see, the new library of Alexandria, The University Centre on Svalbard, the Sami parliament and the new bridge in Svinesund which connects Norway with Europe.
Thematically, the exhibition is divided into five categories: Transformation, Form and Function, Symbol and Identity, Materials and constructions and Contrast and proximity.
The curators attend to give a synopsis of the Norwegian contribution to contemporary architecture through the eternal themes of nature, place, and identity but also through the role of economy, social conditions and high professionalism of the researchers who have contributed to the development of the excellent quality of architecture in Norway.
The event is organized with the collaboration of the Embassy, the Norwegian Institute at Athens, the Hellenic Institute of Architecture and the Archaeological Museum in Thessaloniki.
Hon. Consul, Mr John Accas will be representing the Embassy at the opening.
