The Embassy in cooperation with the Norwegian Institute at Athens participated for the second time at the Fair in an effort to present and promote classical and contemporary Norwegian literature. The visitors could find new editions, Norwegian literature translated into Greek and general information on Norway. Ms Eirin Hagen from Hagen Agency participated at the Nordic stand and Greek publishers had the opportunity to receive detailed information on several new editions from Norway.
2009 marks the 150th anniversary of the famous Norwegian nobel laureate Knut Hamsun and there was information material on the author and his work.
The international book fair is organized by the Greek National Book Centre and has taken place in Thessaloniki every year since 2004. The fair takes place at the Helexpo exhibition centre, and offers visitors an opportunity to get acquainted with the latest releases of publishers from Greece and around the world.
The theme of the book fair this year was history. On display were recent releases of history-related books from Greek publishers: Greek and foreign literature, historical novels, essays, studies and large-format illustrated volumes on history. As a parallel event, Professor Panos Dimas, Director of The Norwegian Institute at Athens, was speaking about the Institute’s work in Greece at an event at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki where the directors of the Nordic institutes presented the work of their respective institutes. The event, with the general title “ Recording Greek history”, took place on Friday 29th May at 7 p.m. at the museum at 6, M. Andronikou Str., 546 21, Thessaloniki .
