Music pioneers ”Ulver” play in Athens

For 15 years they have refused to play live. When Ulver now comes out of the recording studio, Athens is on the tour list.

One of the most influential bands on the Norwegian music scene play their first ever concert in Greece on November 14th. The fact that they have never played in Greece before is not because they have deliberately avoided the country.

In fact, Ulver had not played a live show in 15 years until they started touring at the end of May this year!

Formed in 1993 by Kristoffer “Garm” Rygg, Ulver (Wolves in English) made a big impact on the black metal genre with their first records “Bergtatt – Et eventyr i 5 kapitler” (1994), “Kveldssanger” (1995) and especially “Nattens Madrigal” (1996). However, Ulver is a band that has constantly changed styles. It now consists of only three members: Garm, Jørn H. Sværen and Tore Ylwizaker, and plays electronic, symphonic and ambient music.

In addition to regular studio albums, Ulver has also made the soundtracks to three Norwegian movies: “Svidd neger”, “Salto, salmiakk og kaffe” and  “Uno”.

The concert in Lillehammer on May 30th was the band’s first ever and they have played at a couple of Norwegian festivals since. Earlier in October they performed at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall and the concert at Gagarin will be their second outside Norway.
