Jazz Improvisations

In connection with the marking of the 250th Anniversary of the death of baroque composer Georg Friederich Haendel, the Norwegian Embassy and the Norwegian Institute at Athens are organising a piano recital with jazz improvisations on Haendel.

Pianist and composer Yiorgos Psihoyios, together with Christos Asonytis and Manos Lutas, will improvise on music from the famous composer, on Friday 3 April at 20:30 hours, at the Theocharakis Foundation of Fine Arts.
 
Yiorgos Psihoyios was born in Athens. He started his musical studies, studying accordion and piano. Having taken his piano diploma, he continud his studies in the Theory of Music. He has also attended seminars of Contemporary Music Analysis and Notation and Lead of Orchestra. He has participated in seminars of Piano and Chamber Music with many exceptional foreign pianists.
 
Yiorgos Psihoyios has also applied himself with Jazz Music and Improvisation, with great success . He has staged many recitals of piano improvisation, with recognition from the critics and the audience.
 
Christos Asonytys was born in Athens and he started playing drums at the age of 17. He graduated in 1999 with a diploma of drums. In 2006 he started also piano lessons.
 
Manos Lutas was born in Chios Island and begun music studies from his early years. On completion of his studies in Greece, he continued his jazz studies (MBA) at the New School Manes of Music in New York.  He played at the West D Theatre of Broadway and many places with Arnie Lorens and Mat Garrison big band.
 

Georg Friedrich Haendel (1685 – 1759) was a Baroque composer, famous for his works such as the Messiah Oriatorio, Water Music and Music for the Royal Fireworks. Born in Germany, with his musical training in Italy, he spent most of his life in England.
 
The recital will be broadcasted to several countries by EBU (European Broadcasting Union) on the Sunday 19 April which has been set as the Pan-European Haendel radio day. The countries the broadcasting the show are: Portugal, Spain, Rumania, Germany, Serbia, Finland, Sweden, Iceland, Estonia, The U.K. and Greece
 

 
 
The concert is part of a series of cultural events organized by the Norwegian Embassy and the Norwegian Institute at Athens.
