Henrik Ibsens play Ghosts, in Greek Βρυκόλακες, on Theatro Ekati in Athens, directed by Valentini Lourba.
In Ghosts, Norwegian author and playwright Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906) tells the story of Mrs. Alving, the widow of Captain Alving, who dedicated her life to her husband and her son Osvald. Captain Alving had an affair with Mrs. Engstrand, with the result of an illegitimate child, a girl, who believes Mr. Engstrand is her father.
Mrs. Alving runs to her first love, clergyman Manders, for advice, as her Osvald is ill, and has a big favor to ask from his mother. At the same time, the illegitimate child of Captain Alving and now the maid in the Alving residence has been romantically involved with the man who is in fact her half brother. Mrs. Alving faces great choices as her sons health deteriorates, as the plot thickens…
Ibsen does not create the suffering of the play; he simply grasps on to the misery that already exists in this world.
