Text by Haukeland Songlag
Haukeland Songlag was founded in 1928 and is celebrating its 80th anniversary with a trip to Greece.
In spite of its old age, Haukeland Songlag is a choir which is well-known for its youthful drive and enthusiasm.
The choir has produced several large musical shows, among others “Slagerparaden” (The Hit Parade) in 1992, which consisted of popular songs from 1930-1960. This was carried forward into “Thank you for the music” in 2000/2001, with songs from 1970-2000. In 2003 the choir performed songs from famous musicals in the show “Singing in the Rain”, whereas the anniversary year 2008 has been marked by a large show consisting of songs from famous films, “Popcorn”.
The choir has also participated in several national competitions with good results. The choir has a wide repertoire; everything from folk songs and sacred music to pop and modern music.
Haukeland Songlag has traveled a lot, both in Norway and abroad. Some of the destinations have been Iceland, Hungary, France, Ireland, Lithuania and Spain. The choir has also played host to a number of foreign choirs, and in doing so, strong musical friendship bonds have been established. We are now happy to be in Greece to meet Friends of Modern Music, who we first met during the Grieg International Choir Festival in Bergen in 2005. Back then we had the pleasure of holding a joint concert in our local church in Arna in Bergen, an event of which we have fond memories.
