First organised in 1990, The Ibsen Festival performs every year some of Henrik Ibsen's best-loved works at the renowned National Theatre of Norway. Now Director Eirik Stubø has brought the successful Greek production of «the Lady from the Sea» to the festival in Oslo.
The Lady from the Sea, directed last winter at the Greek National Theatre by Eirik Stubø, was one of the guest performances at the Ibsen festival 2010 with performing actors Vassilis Andreou, Aris Lempesopoulos, Loukia Michalopoulou, Maria Nafpliotou, Odysseas Papaspiliopulos, Alkistis Poulopoulou and Nikos Hatzopoulos.
Asked how productions are selected, artistic director Hanne Tømta explains in an interveiw with ibsen.net
-Our starting point is that they must be good productions with some form of relevance, and underlines
-If we hadn’t had a festival which has exposed us to different expressions and productions, I think the Ibsen tradition in Norway would have totally stagnated.
Other participating countries are China, Germany, India, Argentina and Sweden. To learn more about the festival, read this overview by Keld Hylling in connection with the festival's 20 years celebration: The International Ibsen Festival – an overview.
