The Norwegian Institute and the Norwegian Embassy in Athens organised a Christmas concert on Sunday 21 December at the German Church in Kolonaki
The concert featured the Manolis Kalomiris Children's Choir and the Mixed Choir of the Department of Music at the University of Athens who sang Byzantine Hymns and Greek traditional Christmas Carols. The concert took place at the German church in Sina street 68, Kolonaki Athens.

Manolis Kalomiris children’s choir
The “Manolis Kalomiris” children’s choir bears the name ot the most important Greek composer of the National School and has been established in 1989 by Mrs. Hara Kalomiri, the composer’s grand-daughter. It's members are children from 7 to 16 years of age.
Since 1995, the Choir has served as a permanent collaborator of the “National Opera” and of the “Athens Festival”, participating in many opera-performances in Greece and abroad. It has also collaborated with many famous conductors of our era, such as Kurt Masur, Bramwell Tovey etc. as well as with many orchestras and choirs, including the “London Philharmonic Orchestra” and the “London Philharmonic Choir”, the “Constantinople Philharmonic Orchestra” and the “GR-ERT Choir”.
In July 2008, the choir took part in a monumental production of the opera “Boris Goudounov” by Modest Mussorgsky at the “Athens Concert Hall”, in collaboration with the famous Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow.
The choir released its first cd with children’s songs by Greek composers in December 2008.
The Mixed Choir of the Music Department of the Athens University
The Mixed Choir of the Athens University was established in November 1998. Its members are students from the Music Department, with great interest to the Greek and of course for the international choir repertory.
It is the 10th year that the choir is in full action. It has performed many works of Greek composers and some of the most famous and important works of the classical repertory. It has given a lot of performances in Greece and abroad.
Nikos Malliaras
Nikos Malliaras was born in Athens. He studied Byzantine and Modern Greek Literature at the University of Athens, piano at the National Conservatoire, Athens and Musicology at the University of Munich, from where he earned his PhD in 1990. He serves as Associate Professor of Musicology at the Department of Musical Studies of the University of Athens.
In 1989 he undertook the direction of the “Manolis Kalomoiris” Children's Choir, which he conducted until 1993 and again from 2000 up to today. He also founded the Mixed Choir of the Music Department of the Athens University, which he also conducts
Since 1992 he is a permanent collaborator at the Publications Comitee of the Athens Concert Hall, and has collaborated as Choir conductor with the Greek National Opera, the Festival of Athens and the Concert Halls of Athens and of Thessaloniki. He has published many musicological studies and books in four languages.
