The three-day Borderline Festival in Athens sets out to define new ideas and sounds. Norwegian artist Phonophani will contribute to this with his inventional electronic music.
From March 31 to April 2 you have the opportunity to explore altogether seven concerts by international artists at the Borderline Festival organized by the Onassis Cultural Centre and Marionettentheater.
Espen Sommer Eide, alias Phonophani, is an electronic musician also inventing his own instruments as a software designer. Working with his home-brewed software he creates never-heard before sounds.

– Pierre is making a theatre of miniature machines with the result being more mechanic and looped in nature, Espen Sommer Eide says about his partner at stage.
I make more traditional instruments, that are hybrids between acoustic and digital.
– This new collaboration is sure to surprise, writes the organizer at the Onassis Cultural Centre’s webpage.
Program:

Brings Norwegian artists to Greece
Thodoris Papadakis invites the audiences to experience the unexpected at the Borderline Festival March 31 to April 2. Thodoris Papadakis has collaborated with the Onassis Cultural Center in organizing the three-day festival. He is very interested in Norwegian artists and has also recently arranged a concert with Norwegian Hardanger fiddle player Nils Økland.
– In contemporary Norwegian music I find a lot of independent artists falling in between genres. In addition, Norway has many interesting festivals as Borealis, Ultima and All Ears.
Papadakis represents Μarionettentheater together with colleague Maria Ntourountaki. Μarionettentheater is a project that focus on to giving grounds to the development of new ideas.
As an arranger Papadakis looks for artists that define new sounds. He wants to be cautious using the word ‘experimental’.
– Experimental is an overused word. To me, this would include a cultivation of a voice of one’s own. We hope to see this happening at our festival, Papadakis says.
The three-day Borderline Festival presents diverse artists of the experimental music field from around the world, that try to define new ideas and sounds on electronic music, improvisation and new media. Marionettentheater is supported by The Norwegian Embassy and The Norwegian Institute at Athens.
