About Andreas Giacumacatos
Andreas Giacumacatos was born in Athens, Greece, in 1955. He studied also architecture at the Faculty of Architecture in Florence and Venice, Italy and gained his Ph.D. at the Thessaloniki University, Greece. He is now professor of History and Theory of Architecture at the School of Architecture in Thessaloniki, and at the Faculty of Art History and Theory in the Athens School of Fine Arts. He has founded the Greek Docomomo working party in 1990, and was a founding member of the Hellenic Institute of Architecture in 1994, which he directed in 1999-2001. For the same institute he organized in 2009-2010 at the Benaki Museum in Athens the first series of conferences of Scandinavian architects, including Kjetil Thorsen and Bjarke Ingels, and in 2010-2011 the second series of “German-speaking” European architecture (Austria, Germany, Switzerland). Since 1987 he is consultant editor of the annual reviews “Architecture in Greece” and “Design + Art in Greece”, and architectural critic of the Athens newspaper “To Vima”.
