Athens Marathon -Not just a major sports event
Every year, the amount collected through the Athens Classical Marathon is granted to benefit the causes of charity organizations. For this year’s Marathon, UNESCO and The Hellenic Athletics Federation have agreed to support UNESCO’s Program “Education for All”, for the support of girls in Africa.
The Hellenic Athletics Federation, which is the organizer of the Athens Classical Marathon, is pleased to announce a part of this year’s income will be donated to UNESCO’s educational program, focusing on girls in Africa and their rights for education.
-The Athens Classical Marathon is not just a major sports event, but a bridge between today and the past, between history and ideals of freedom, and between the actual competition and human values. The cooperation between the Hellenic Athletics Federation and UNESCO connects this year’s Marathon with values of unique meaning such as solidarity, participation and brotherhood, says the Chairman of Organizing Committee, Mr. Kostas Panagopoulos, in a press release.
The 29th Athens Classic Marathon takes place in Athens on November 13th at 9am.
