With two important plays of Henrik Ibsen’s “Ghosts” and “The Lady from the Sea”, Diachrono Theater presents its second study of European drama from the late nineteenth century, the last one having focused on Chekhov.

The leading ladies are in both cases experienced performers of Ibsen’s plays. This marks the third time Mary Vidali (Ellida) performs in a play by Ibsen. The first time was in 1987 as Regina in “Ghosts” under the direction of Michael Papanikolaou at the Pili Theatre and the second as Hedda in “Hedda Gabler”, directed by George Livanos at the Pantomime Theatre. Nita Pagonis (Mrs Alving) has also earlier experience playing Regina in “Ghosts”, at the National Theatre in 1966.

"Lady from the Sea"

"Lady from the Sea" is one of Ibsen’s most lyrical, hopeful and rarely performed plays. Married to the respectable Dr Wangel, Ellida has a secure, comfortable but land-locked life. She is constantly drawn towards the sea. As memories of a past love threaten to overwhelm her will she suffocate on dry land, or find freedom across the ocean?
As many of Ibsen's dramas this play also comments on the position of women and gender relations in patriarchal society.

Acting in the play are Mary Vidali, Byron Kolasis, Paul Evangelopoulos, John Trampidis, George Georgiou, Maria Mallouchou, Chris Marathias and Helen Gialama, and under the direction of George Vouros. Translation by Eva Georgousopoulou.

"The Lady from the Sea” premiers 6th January, and will be performed every Friday (21:00), Saturday (21:00) and Sunday (18:30.

"Ghosts"

Ibsen's renowned play “Ghosts” is translated and directed by Tasos Lertas. Controversy and hidden pasts are suddenly and painfully exposed as wealthy widow Mrs Alving prepares to open a new orphanage in memory of her seemingly beloved husband. As the plot unfolds old secrets are turned into a frightening and desperate reality.

Stratos Tzortzoglou and Paulos Evangelopoulos play the role of Oswald, Nita Pagoni plays Mrs Alving, while Byron Kolasis, Panos Nikolaidis and Alexandra Apostolidou plays Pastor Manders, Jacob and Regina respectively.

The premiere of the play was on October 24, and the play is being performed on Mondays and Tuesdays (21:00)
