Personal Identification Number

Applications for Personal Identification Numbers for children born in Greece or Cyprus are to be submitted to the Norwegian Embassy in Athens or the to the Norwegian Consulate in Cyprus. The Personal Identification Number consists of the applicant’s date of birth and a social security number.

The following documents should be included with the application:

1. Mother’s and father’s passport, or a confirmed copy of their passport/ID-card

2. Original birth certificate, or a certified copy, in which the child’s first name* and date of birth is stated. If the certificate is written in a language other than French, English or German, please translate it by a state authorized translator translator approved by the Norwegian authorities.

3. The birth certificate must carry an Apostille stamp.

*You can get the child’s first name written on the original birth certificate at the Greek public register (Lyksiarchio) in the municipality where the child was born. Both parents must meet to declare the first name, and bring a passport/ID card. If one of the parents is unable to attend, she/he must sign an authorization at a police station or KEP.

The procedure may take 4-6 weeks.
